About Carter Mountain Orchard
Carter Mountain Orchard, located next to Michie Tavern and mere minutes from Monticello, is open from July to Thanksgiving, 7-days-a-week from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The fun starts in the summer sun with peach season. Head up the hill and pick your own tree-ripened peaches and nectarines, or purchase pre-picked fruit in our barn. You’ll also find pre-picked white fleshed peaches and nectarines there, plus summer apples…perfect for applesauce and cooking.
As summer fades, the action heats up on the mountain with the September start of our spectacular apple season. Pick Your Own, or buy fresh picked in the Apple Barn. You’ll find a dozen varieties including Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Winesap and Fuji. We also offer fresh Apple Cider, home made apple cider donuts (a runaway hit year after year), fresh-baked apple pies, apple caramel cookies and hand-dipped ice cream.
When autumn hits full swing in October, Carter Mountain hits its peak as well with pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn and classic hayrides around the gorgeous property. An October weekend visit to Carter Mountain is a staple on family calendars throughout the state. We look forward to welcoming you, or welcoming you back, to join in the fun.
A trip to Carter Mountain Orchard is not complete without a stop in our Country Store – it’s brimming with local crafts, gourmet food products, apple butter, jams and jellies, gift items, and more. Forget something when you visited? Wish you had picked up more apple butter? Check out our online store to have your favorite Carter Mountain products delivered right to your door!
Open Daily 9am - 6pm
Carter Mountain Vineyard
Carter Mountain plays a role in Virginia's nationally-acclaimed wine scene thanks to Carter Mountain Vineyard. Since it's planting in the spring of 1998, the vineyard has produced a variety of grapes including Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Today Carter Mountain Vineyard supplies some of the area's finest wine grapes to leading local wineries.
So, should you clear space in your cellar for Carter Mountain Vineyard wines? Not yet…but keep that thought. It just might be in our future!
